Bill Belichick nabs transfer away from Deion Sanders, Colorado

Bill Belichick is active in the transfer portal this offseason of college football, with Dion Sanders being the latest victim of former patriot head coach North Carolina’s rebuild.

Belichick, 73, picked up former four-star wide receiver Adrian Wilson from the transfer portal on Thursday in Tar Heels’ latest roster move. On3Sports was first reported.

Wilson, one of Colorado’s top players in 2025 recruitment class, entered the transfer portal on Wednesday after spring practice.

The freshmen who signed with the school during the early December signing period before enrolling in Colorado early were previously verbally committed to Arizona.

Belichick’s move to acquire Wilson from Colorado comes in a recent string of acquisitions by the Tar Heels head coach.

North Carolina added former South Alabama quarterback Gio Lopez on Thursday as a massive splash for the spring travel portal.

The next sophomore led South Alabama to a 7-6 record last season, throwing 2,559 passing yards and 18 touchdowns.

“Saying goodbye to South Alabama is one of the hardest decisions of my life. I am extremely grateful to my time here and to all those who have made it such a special experience. What Apple White Coach, Julie and the whole Apple White family means to me, I am always grateful for their guidance, support and love.” Lopez posted on his social media account on Thursday.

The Tar Heels welcomed former Nebraska and Missouri linebacker Mikai Gubayor on Wednesday along with Kumori’s House (linebacker), Thadeus Dixon (corner), and Washington-born Payton Waters (Safety) earlier this offseason.

Belichick also lost a player from the transfer portal on Thursday along with quarterback Ryan Browne and defensive lineman Beau Atkinson.

Brown joined North Carolina in December, spending his first two seasons at Purdue, where he will return.

Atkinson led the tar heels in bags throughout the 2024 season.
