Belichick Discusses His Bond with Hudson After Interview Incident
Bill Belichick, now coaching at the University of North Carolina, recently made some surprising remarks regarding his connection with Jordon Hudson following a controversial CBS interview.
A leaked email revealed that the 73-year-old clearly outlined his complicated personal and professional relationship with the 24-year-old. He stated the reason for attending the April broadcast with her.
“Jordon and I have both personal and professional relationships,” Belichick reportedly wrote to UNC’s Besquith, senior associate deputy prime minister of the University Communications Bureau.
“This is no secret. Jordon helps with my personal media efforts. That’s why I asked UNC to forward media requests—and that includes CBS 60 Minutes—to her. Jordon isn’t part of the UNC football program, except where my personal media overlaps.”
The interview was primarily intended to promote Belichick’s new book, The Art of Winning: My Life in Football. However, things took a turn when Hudson interrupted his conversation with reporter Tony Dokoapill to shift focus away from their personal lives.
In a follow-up email, Belichick mentioned that CBS had initially wanted to conduct the interview in Chapel Hill but decided against it because UNC wasn’t tied to the book.
He pointed out that Hudson attended specifically because his spokesperson, David Cuss, from Simon & Schuster—his book’s publisher—wasn’t present.
He indicated that Hudson’s presence was necessary, as she contributed to the book and was even acknowledged in its pages for her creative ideas on special formatting.
Attempts to get a comment from the University of North Carolina yielded no immediate response.
Belichick earlier expressed similar feelings in a detailed statement defending Hudson’s interruption, emphasizing his intention to discuss the book during the interview.
“I had communicated with my Simon & Schuster spokesperson that we should keep the conversation focused solely on the book’s content,” he wrote.
Despite that, he noted his surprise and frustration when unrelated topics arose multiple times during the discussion, reiterating that Hudson and he share both personal and professional connections but wanted to maintain focus on the discussion at hand.
The legendary coach also reflected on their first meeting in 2021, hinting at the depth of their connection.
