Bill Belichick talks about an important aspect of the relationship between Tom Brady and Antonio Brown.

Belichick Reveals Relationship Management Between Brady and Brown

Bill Belichick recently shared insights into how he navigated the relationship between quarterback Tom Brady and wide receiver Antonio Brown during his tenure as head coach of the New England Patriots.

The Patriots welcomed Brown at the start of the 2019 season after he left the Las Vegas Raiders. He only played one game for the Patriots, making four receptions for 56 yards and scoring a touchdown. Despite this brief stint, Brady and Brown established a bond that continued when they played together with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Belichick, now the head coach at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, appeared on a podcast where he discussed the unique dynamics of player relationships. One amusing anecdote from his book, The Art of Winning: My Life in Football, highlights Brown’s short time with the team.

“One funny moment in the book is about Antonio Brown. He was with us for just 11 days,” Belichick mentioned. “Tom is quite conscious of nutritional needs. Antonio wanted to visit Tom’s home and be welcomed into the team.”

Belichick recounted an extraordinary incident where Brown ordered a special milk for Brady that cost $5,000. Unfortunately, it got lost in the mail, which he humorously noted could have caused issues between Brady and Brown if the milk spoiled.

“The staff ended up with this $5,000 worth of milk, and we had to submit an expense report for it,” he said. “Sometimes, you make those calls to keep relationships intact.”

Browns’s time with the Patriots was fleeting, but he and Brady eventually achieved success together, winning the Super Bowl in the 2020 season with the Buccaneers.
