Bill Belichick took out a full-page ad on page A3 of the Boston Globe on Sunday, bidding farewell to New England Patriots fans.
The longtime Patriots coach, who parted ways with the team last month, thanked fans for their passion and loyalty.
“To Patriots fans around the world,” Belichick wrote, “Nowhere in America are there more passionate professional sports fans than in New England. I’ve been blessed to feel your passion and power for 24 years. It was,” he wrote.
The 71-year-old coach surprisingly didn’t get another head coaching job after missing the Atlanta Falcons’ season opener after two interviews (hiring Raheem Morris) and was offered a job elsewhere. He didn’t get much attention, but he helped lead the Patriots to Super 6. They won a bowl title during his 24 years at the helm.
Belichick praised the dedication of the fans, saying they “undaunted the weather and participated in scorching training camp practices, even in the coldest, wettest, snowiest, windiest, and windiest days in Foxboro.” “They bravely endured strong days.”
Belichick also noted the “thoughtful support, criticism, and creative play suggestions” from fans, adding, “I hope you enjoyed my fashion sense and press conferences, which you may have, or just put up with.” It might have been.”
Patriots fans also travel a lot, Belichick continued.
“You have traveled from coast to coast and around the world,” he wrote. “Many times you outran the opposing stadium and were the last fan standing. We loved it! You dedicated your valuable time, resources and energy to our team. . I am grateful!”
He also mentioned the six Super Bowl parades that are “burned into my memory.”
Belichick ended the letter with “Thank you, everyone,” in all caps, and signed the letter with “With respect and admiration.”
