Bill Clinton addresses recent shooting linked to immigration issues

Clinton Criticizes Hostile Tactics Following Shooting in Minneapolis

Former President Bill Clinton expressed concern on Sunday regarding the increasingly aggressive tactics employed by authorities. He highlighted that the Trump administration seems to be urging Americans to dismiss their own observations, particularly after a deadly incident involving federal immigration agents in Minneapolis.

In this incident, 37-year-old Alex Preti was shot and killed by a Border Patrol agent while he was documenting an immigration operation. Preti, who worked as an ICU nurse, was reportedly attempting to assist a female colleague who had collapsed after being sprayed with a chemical agent. Witnesses noted that an agent took a gun from Preti’s waistband, which led to other officers firing shots that resulted in his death.

This shooting adds to recent tensions in Minneapolis, especially following the ICE-related fatality of Renee Nicole Good earlier this month.

Clinton remarked, “We have seen disturbing scenes in Minneapolis and other areas that we never thought we’d witness in this country, where people—including children—are being taken from their homes, workplaces, and public spaces by masked federal agents.”

He pointed out that peaceful demonstrators and bystanders have faced severe responses, including arrests, physical violence, and even death, as seen in the cases of Good and Preti. “This is unacceptable and should have been avoided,” he stated.

Clinton added that those in power, “lied to us at every turn, telling us not to believe our own eyes,” and criticized their obstructive behavior concerning local investigations.

He concluded his statement with a call to action, saying, “We encounter moments when our choices will affect history for years. This is such a moment. If we sacrifice our freedoms after 250 years, we may never regain them. It is our responsibility, as believers in the ideals of American democracy, to stand up, speak out, and assert that this nation belongs to us, the people.”
