Bill Clinton Discusses Biden’s Mental Acuity on “The View”
Former President Bill Clinton recently appeared on ABC’s “The View,” where he reiterated that he has never doubted former President Joe Biden’s mental sharpness. Clinton expressed confidence about Biden’s clarity of thought and judgment during their interactions.
“Well, I think you have to pay attention to them,” Clinton remarked when asked about Biden’s past statements. “But all I can say is whenever I was around him, his mind was clear, his judgment was good and he was on top of his brief.”
Nonetheless, Clinton critiqued the White House’s strategy leading up to Biden and Trump’s CNN debate in June 2024. He found Biden’s decision to vacation internationally right before the debate questionable.
“He was 80 years old. What the heck is he doing that for?” Clinton asked. “Why was that allowed to happen?”
“There’s a lot of questions. I don’t know,” he added. “All I know is I think we should think less about that, more about the future.”
When discussing President Donald Trump, Clinton did not hold back in his criticism, particularly regarding Trump’s approach to the White House’s 2025 report, which Trump claimed to have never read. Clinton referenced Project 2025, a policy guide from the Heritage Foundation that some Democrats allege was solely authored by Trump for his potential second term.
Additionally, he commented on other Republican policies, such as the deportation of non-citizens, which he argued disregarded judicial orders.
“He said, ‘Don’t read that, don’t pay attention to it,’ but he always does that, so people pretty much knew what they were getting,” Clinton noted. “I think there’s been more of it than they expected.”
Clinton also addressed recent attempts to ban certain books from schools and government institutions, specifically criticizing the removal of Maya Angelou’s “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” from the library at the U.S. Naval Academy. He believed that discussions about such a book should be encouraged among adults.
“And I took it personally because she was a friend of mine,” he reflected. “It was insane, and it should really bother people.”
