Former New York Mayor Bill de Blasio says Democrats have groped for a “winning election” because they were unable to cite former President Joe Biden's mental decline.
“And instead of us as Democrats who are squeezing our hands and crying, let's go back to the horse and ride again.
De Blasio explained that Democrats have lost the opportunity to deal with inflation and border issues. He added that Biden and former vice president Kamala Harris are trying to lower healthcare costs and insulin prices.

“And those messages were just not clear, and people had all the rights to want those answers,” he said. “It was good, but that wasn't a sufficient answer. So I think we looked at this and said, and we blew it away.”
De Blasio ran for president in the 2020 presidential election, when Biden and Harris defeated then-presidential candidate Donald Trump.
Throughout the 2024 presidential election, many media experts and commentators ran to Biden's defense when there was speculation about his mental decline. Many Democrats reflected their loss and emphasized that Democratic presidential candidate Harris cannot connect with working-class voters and address economic issues.

“Let's say it out loud. We blew it away. People didn't feel like we understood them and empathized with them enough. It's correctable,” de Blasio said.
“Think about these voters, and there are many people in this country who have voted for Barack Obama twice: Donald Trump, then Joe Biden, and once again Donald Trump. These are not voters who have not been able to return to Democrats.
