Maher Chats with Edgerton Over Golden Globe Nominations
On a recent episode of the “Club Random” podcast, Bill Maher and actor Joel Edgerton had a candid discussion about their experiences with Golden Globe nominations, recorded just before the awards ceremony. Edgerton, who starred in “Train Dreams,” was curious about Maher’s feelings walking into such an event.
“What’s it like when you walk in?” Edgerton asked Maher. The actor shared that, for him, just being nominated feels like a victory. “Maybe it’s because I’ve always set my ceiling quite low in life.”
Maher agreed, saying that simply receiving a nomination is a big deal. He also remarked, “I speak freely. And this woke town f—— hates that,” highlighting the complexities around his candid style in the industry.
Since 1995, Maher has garnered numerous Emmy nominations for his work on “Real Time,” along with earlier projects like “Politically Incorrect” and various stand-up specials. He clinched an Emmy Award in 2014 for producing the documentary series “Vice.”
Recently, he attended the Golden Globe Awards as a nominee for Best Performance in a Stand-up Comedy on Television but ultimately lost to British comedian Ricky Gervais.
