Terry Moran’s Departure from ABC News and Controversial Posts

During a recent segment of “Real Time with Bill Maher,” the host addressed former ABC reporter Terry Moran’s social media outbursts aimed at President Donald Trump and Stephen Miller. Maher, who labeled former ABC journalists as “fair,” questioned, “This guy is a reporter, what–?”

Moran made a critical post on June 8th about Trump and Miller, expressing his disdain for them, but later deleted it. Initially, ABC News announced that Moran had been suspended, but ultimately decided to part ways with him.

He even reflected on potential career paths, perhaps hinting at his plans moving forward. Maher noted Moran’s harsh description of Miller, calling him “a world-class hater” who seems to thrive on hatred, visible in his demeanor.

Shortly after Moran was suspended, ABC confirmed their decision to cut ties with the veteran correspondent. An ABC News spokesperson stated, “We are at the end of our agreement with Terry Moran and based on his recent posts — a clear violation of ABC News Policy — we have decided not to renew.” They emphasized their commitment to objectivity and professionalism in journalism.

Post-firing, Moran swiftly joined Substack. He shared his first article, which expressed a strong opposition to Trump and emphasized the importance of using one’s voice to protect democracy.

ABC News personnel expressed disappointment over Moran’s actions, acknowledging his popularity but labeling his posts as “very stupid” during such critical times for journalistic credibility. One staff member remarked that his tweets negatively impacted collective trust in journalism.
