Bill Maher Critiques Hollywood’s Response to Assassination
On Friday, Bill Maher, the host of “Real Time,” criticized Hollywood liberals for not acknowledging the assassination of Charlie Kirk, which took place on September 10th at the Emmys.
Maher remarked during the panel discussion, “The left doesn’t have this bad attitude of not being able to contact us. I would have done anything to get up there at the Emmy. They’re all eager to discuss their politics, so would they be willing to kill someone to speak up? This week, we witnessed a political assassination. He was on the ‘wrong team’ so the audience would have booed him off the stage.” He continued, expressing his belief that if a left-wing figure had been targeted, the entire program would have revolved around it.
Interestingly, the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards did not mention the shocking murder of the Turning Point USA co-founder, even though host Nate Bargatze had stated his intention to avoid political topics during the event. He mentioned, “I know there’s something heartbreaking happening right now, but I want to focus on the night, so I believe I’m just a distraction.”
Despite the absence of any reference to Kirk, the ceremony did include various political statements. For instance, Hannah Einbinder, who won the Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy series, wrapped up her acceptance speech with a provocative phrase.
Cris Abrego, chair of the TV Academy, faced backlash from the audience when he criticized Congress for its handling of public broadcasting funding during a segment dedicated to honoring supportive businesses.
Meanwhile, in an interview on the Emmy’s red carpet, actor Javier Bardem discussed the significance of the Kefiyah scarf he wore and voiced his concerns regarding the situation in Gaza, referring to it as genocide. He stated, “We are demanding action and sanctions to stop the genocide, Free Palestine.”
