Bill Maher Critiques “The View” Over Delay in Commenting on Kimmel
During a recent episode of “Real Time,” Bill Maher criticized co-hosts of “The View” for their slow response to the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel’s show. Maher expressed frustration over their silence, suggesting that they should have reacted sooner to the situation surrounding Kimmel, who was pulled from the air after making controversial remarks involving Charlie Kirk’s murderer.
He remarked, “It’s not great for the Women’s Party that the guys reacted when Trump targeted Kimmel, while the women remained quiet. Then, after several days, they finally spoke up, saying ‘No one will shut us up.’”
Maher noted that “The View” initially did not address ABC’s decision regarding Kimmel, which contributed to the tense atmosphere in media discussions.
Kimmel Reflects on His Show’s Future
Kimmel expressed surprise that his show had aired at all. Maher, referencing a prior exchange on September 22, pushed the envelope further, saying Whoopi Goldberg, who co-hosts “The View,” should not need additional time to prepare comments on the incident.
Maher mentioned, “Five days went by—what do you need extra time for?” This pointed remark highlighted the unusual delay in their commentary.
Representatives from “The View” declined to comment when reached by Fox News Digital.
Typically, the show opens with a segment on trending topics, making the lack of commentary on Kimmel’s situation particularly notable. Maher has previously pointed out their reticence on significant controversies.
Speculations on Kimmel’s Suspension
Maher remarked on his relationships with the women from “The View,” stating, “They fell silent this week, which is concerning.” He noted that their commentary often avoids criticism, referring to the show’s light-hearted dynamic.
Kimmel’s show, “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” was suspended by ABC and the Walt Disney Company on September 17. Notably, “The View” did not mention Kimmel’s suspension on the day it occurred or in episodes immediately following.
Goldberg Addresses the Controversy
Five days later, Goldberg defended their approach, indicating that they had waited to see if Kimmel would handle the situation himself. “Did you think we weren’t talking about him?” she asked, reaffirming their ongoing dialogue on the issues that resonate within their lengthy series run.
“No one has silenced us. We’re still here,” she assured viewers.
