Bill Murray has really taken the title of “number one sports dad.” During the recent March Madness college basketball tournament, he was spotted at a game at the University of Connecticut. Why? His son, Luke, is an assistant coach there.

On March 29, Bill and Luke celebrated as UConn triumphed over Duke, securing their spot in the Final Four at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. UConn pulled off a thrilling last-second 3-point shot, clinching the victory.

After the game, Bill was all smiles—he even joined the university band in celebration, proudly wearing a UConn cap.

They shared a heartwarming moment on the court post-game, embracing after the big win. Bill has always encouraged Luke’s love for basketball. In a past interview, he reminisced about their shared passion for the game, saying, “We all played basketball and were Bulls fans, and he fell in love with Michael Jordan.”

Luke didn’t hesitate to brag a little about his achievements, joking, “He can pay all his own bills.” Bill chimed in, “I mean, who isn’t proud that their son wears a tie?”

This week, Luke and the Huskies are set to face Illinois in the Final Four, and excitement is definitely in the air.

In another recent development, Boston University has announced that they have hired Luke as their new men’s basketball head coach. In a statement, Director of Athletics Blake James shared his enthusiasm: “Today marks a turning point for Boston University men’s basketball. In Luke Murray, we have found a leader who not only understands the modern college basketball landscape but has helped define it.”

Luke has been an assistant coach at UConn since 2021, working under head coach Dan Hurley. Reflecting on the Big East Conference in 2023, Bill expressed pride in his son during March Madness that year. “I’m so proud of this kid. He’s a great kid and has worked so hard,” Bill said.
