There’s still some cold blood between Robert Kraft and Bill Parcells.
Parcells had a bitter break with the Patriots after New England lost to the Packers in the Super Bowl in early 1997.
In an upcoming episode of Apple TV+’s documentary “Dynasty,” Parcells and Kraft got into an argument.
What MassLive CoversMr. Parcells wanted to manage personnel, but he resented the fact that “incompetent” people were in charge of compiling the roster.
“Even though we were ultimately able to have some success, I felt like Kraft wasn’t necessarily in line with what I knew was best in building a team. Kraft had a lot of football. I didn’t have any real background and because of my inexperience, they took the draft away from me and gave it to someone else,” Parcells said in the documentary.
“I didn’t like it because I felt like incompetent people were making personnel decisions for the organization. I knew I couldn’t go back to the Patriots.”
Kraft, for his part, felt Parcells was putting himself before the team.
“With Coach Parcells, I didn’t think he always put the team first,” Kraft said. “He was making the best decision for Bill Parcells. [to] For the New England Patriots. I promised myself that in the future I would find a coach who truly puts the team first. ”
Parcells coached the Patriots for four seasons starting in 1993.
It is not surprising that he was angry at the lack of personnel management.
“It’s like a friend of mine told me,” Parcells famously said during her separation from Kraft, “If they want you to make dinner, they should at least let you do the grocery shopping.” is”.
Parcells left the Patriots and spent four years with the division rival Jets, replacing him in New England with Pete Carroll.
In the lead-up to the Super Bowl, there were rumors that Parcells was having an affair with the Jets, but then-New England quarterback Drew Bledsoe wasn’t happy about it.
“It was frustrating for us as players,” Bledsoe said in the documentary. “Going from the last team in the league to the Super Bowl was a huge accomplishment. And it wasn’t about Super Bowl week. The conversation was whether Parcells was going to the Jets.”
