Bill Simmons observes signs of a rift between Tom Brady and Bill Belichick in an email shared by Jordon Hudson.

The divide between Bill Belichick and Tom Brady appears clearer to Bill Simmons, founder of Ringer, especially after he encountered a 24-year-old email linked to a former Patriots coach. This email surfaced following Belichick’s awkward interview on CBS.

Simmons shared his thoughts on a recent episode of his podcast, reflecting on Belichick’s perception of his contributions during his time as the head coach of the Patriots.

Belichick found himself in the spotlight after a particularly uneasy interview on “CBS Sunday Morning.” In the aftermath, Hudson revealed an email from Belichick aiming to protect both himself and her amid mounting scrutiny regarding his role.

During the podcast, Simmons highlighted drama surrounding Belichick and Brady’s relationship. He noted that while Belichick’s emails often discussed public relations concerning his new book, there was a comment about raising the franchise’s value that stood out. It seemed to shed light on the dynamics between Brady and Belichick.

“It was often like, ‘We’re in this together, we don’t need credit,’ but credit really mattered,” Simmons remarked. He confessed that despite initially rejecting reports of friction—particularly from ESPN’s Seth Wickersham—there was clearly more complexity beneath the surface.

Simmons suggested that both Belichick and Brady believed they contributed significantly to the Patriots’ success. He commented on the ongoing debate among sports radio hosts about who deserved more credit for the Super Bowls—Belichick or Brady—concluding that they needed each other.

He speculated that others involved might have perceived themselves as more vital to the organization than they truly were.

“When I read that line in the email, I thought, Brady must have felt some bitterness when he won with Tampa,” Simmons observed.

The public relations fiasco that unfolded following the interview has certainly altered perceptions of the head coach who has secured six Super Bowl victories.

Both Belichick and Hudson have become subjects of jokes on platforms like SNL and John Mulaney’s Netflix special.

Additionally, the new soccer coach at the University of North Carolina has reportedly sought external public relations help.
