A significant number of Hollywood celebrities and musicians participated in creating a video to support a benefit concert for “Together Palestine.”
This concert, organized by Brian Eno, occurred on September 17th in London.
Leading up to the sold-out event, video clips featured actors like Cillian Murphy from Peaky Blinders and Joaquin Phoenix from Joker. The video ads also include contributions from actress and comedian Sharon Horgan, British actor Steve Coogan, DJ and broadcaster Annie Mac, and ’80s musician Peter Gabriel.
In the video, Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas express their support for Palestine. They’re joined by Ben Howard and Chris O’Dowd, while actor Brian Cox emphasizes the importance of voicing the truth for Palestinians. Photographer and activist Nan Goldin also highlights the risks that artists face when speaking truth to power.
The website for the event, Together for Palestine, shares that the concert aims to support various Palestinian-led organizations dealing with the crisis, including Taon, the Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund, and the Palestinian Medical Relief Society.
The concert is looking to raise $1 million, intended for those three groups. There’s some controversy surrounding these organizations. Notably, the Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund has been linked to the Islamic Relief World (IRW), which has faced accusations of funding terrorist groups. The IRW was listed as a terrorist organization in 2014 due to connections with the Muslim Brotherhood. Similarly, there have been associations with the Holy Land Foundation’s investigation regarding funding terrorist activities.
