Billie Eilish Calls Out Celebrities Over Silence on Minnesota Violence
Billie Eilish, the Grammy-winning artist, recently took to her Instagram Story with a straightforward message aimed at fellow celebrities regarding their lack of response to the unrest in Minnesota. She posted, “Fellow celebs, are you going to speak up? Or?” to her large following of 125 million.
This comment followed the tragic shooting of Alex Preti, a 37-year-old man killed by federal agents in Minneapolis. Notably, this incident marked the second deadly shooting by a federal officer in the same month.
In her post, Eilish joined a chorus of others speaking out against the violence, urging those with platforms to address the silence among their ranks. One share echoed her sentiments, highlighting the need for adults to engage in political discourse rather than turning a blind eye.
Earlier, Eilish had been very vocal against the Trump administration’s immigration policies, famously referring to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as a “terrorist group.” During her acceptance speech for the 2026 MLK Junior Beloved Community Environmental Justice Award, she criticized the government’s actions, lamenting the assault on civil rights and the diminishing resources needed to combat climate change.
“We’re witnessing our neighbors being kidnapped, peaceful protesters being harmed or killed, and basic rights being stripped away,” she noted in her speech.
The Department of Homeland Security claimed that Preti “approached” a Border Patrol agent with a firearm. However, some reports suggested that he was disarmed prior to being shot.
Eilish also shared a passionate video featuring her brother, Finneas O’Connell, who criticized a double standard in how gun rights are discussed, particularly regarding school shootings versus the shooting of Preti. He pointed out the inconsistency in arguments that justify violence, stating that the narrative surrounding the Second Amendment seems to overlook the tragic consequences on innocent lives.
As of now, there hasn’t been any response from Eilish’s representatives regarding the situation.
