Billie Eilish’s Grammy Remarks Spark Controversy

Pop sensation Billie Eilish stirred the pot at the recent Grammy Awards with her political remarks. During the event, the 24-year-old artist declared to her peers in Hollywood, “No one trespasses on stolen land.”

This bold statement garnered enthusiastic applause from the audience, known for its liberal leanings. The comment was photographed extensively, notably within the secure confines of the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

A Backlash

However, the reception shifted after the show when some viewers highlighted the irony in Eilish’s comments, suggesting that her lavish mansion could also be considered built on “stolen land.” It seems a layer of complexity surrounded her remarks.

After her speech, the Daily Mail reached out to Native American communities for their perspective on Eilish’s statements. A spokesperson for the Tongva tribe remarked, “We appreciate the opportunity to clarify Billie Eilish’s recent comments,” adding that, as Indigenous people of the Los Angeles Basin, they recognize that her residence is on ancestral land.

Clarification Requested

The tribe specified that if celebrities wish to make such statements referencing Native cultures, they should distinctly mention those tribes.

The Tongva tribe, which encompasses around 4,000 square miles across California, noted that Eilish hadn’t directly communicated with them. Still, they expressed gratitude towards her team for the discussion surrounding her comments.

Reports show that Eilish’s family owns multiple properties, including a $3 million home in Los Angeles. Additionally, her brother, Finneas, reportedly sold a Malibu house for $5.66 million in 2022.

Critique on Boundaries

In the wake of the controversy, British journalist Ben Leo visited Eilish’s property. He humorously pointed out that she seemed to advocate for boundaries while personally securing her own space. “A huge gate is blocking people from coming in and going out. I thought Billie didn’t believe in borders,” he commented outside her expansive estate.
