Billie Lourd honors her late mother, Carrie Fisher.

Billie Lourd recently honored her mother, Carrie Fisher, as the ninth anniversary of Fisher’s passing approached.

“It’s been nine years since my mother died,” Lourd reflected, sharing an old photo with her father, Brian Lourd. Fisher, known for her role in Star Wars, passed away on December 27, 2016.

The “American Horror Story” star mentioned how the joyful moments she experiences with her three-year-old son, Jackson, have led her to think of how these joys exist because of her mother.

“This joy exists only because of her,” Lourd, 33, expressed. While Fisher isn’t here in person, she feels her mother is interwoven with these joyful experiences, stating that Fisher “continues to live through this joy.”

Lourd shared that her grief manifests in different ways, especially while watching over her children with her father. She recognized that grief evolves and stated, “But right now, I’m enjoying the joy of this bittersweet sadness.”

Quoting her mother, Lourd wrote, “Nothing is really over, it’s just there.” She emphasized that her mother’s influence remains in her life, enabling her to find joy through her children.

She concluded her post by noting that two photos she shared—one with her father, Lourd, and Fisher, and the other featuring Brian and her children—were taken in the same room, 25 years apart.

Fisher, daughter of Hollywood legends Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher, died at age 60 in Los Angeles from cardiac arrest after being in a coma for several days in 2016. Shockingly, Reynolds passed away just a day later at 84.

Subsequent reports revealed that Fisher had various drugs in her system at the time of her death. In a candid 2017 interview, Billie discussed her mother’s lifelong struggles with addiction and mental health.

Lourd highlighted her mother’s openness about these issues in her work, acknowledging that they ultimately contributed to her death.

The “Scream Queens” star welcomed her son Kingston in 2020, marrying Austin Rydell in March 2022, and her daughter Jackson was born in December of the same year.

On the seventh anniversary of Fisher’s death in 2023, Lourd mentioned shedding “tears of joy” while holding Jackson, reflecting on the deep connection between motherhood and her own experiences. “It’s like the warmth of the sun on your skin on a hot summer day,” she described, capturing a moment filled with both sorrow and happiness.
