Bills Make Moves with Darius Slay
The Bills aren’t slowing down.
Darius Slay, after refusing to play, actually hinted at possibly retiring. This all led to him being placed on the reserve/nonreporting list by Buffalo, who successfully claimed the six-time Pro Bowl cornerback off waivers earlier this week, according to NFL Network.
By doing this, the Bills keep his rights, which means Slay can’t sign with any other team.
Previously, he had been released by the Steelers earlier this week. His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, mentioned that Slay needed some time to think about his future in the NFL.
“Slay is honored to be acquired by a respected organization like the Bills. However, he plans to take some time away from football to decide on his next steps,” Rosenhaus shared.
In a candid moment, Slay expressed, “I don’t feel like packing up and moving again. This is my 13th year, and I feel like I’ve done it all. If they had come for me when I was around 28 or 29, I might’ve felt differently. The Bills are a top organization with a lot going for them. They’ve won, made the playoffs, and secured a franchise quarterback. So, it’s not a bad match—it just seems I got caught at the wrong time.”
Interestingly, after Slay hinted at retirement, Ian Rapoport from NFL Network suggested that he might’ve had plans to go to the Eagles, who also claimed him.
Prior to his time in Pittsburgh, Slay enjoyed five solid seasons with the Eagles.
There was also some buzz from Slay’s wife, Jennifer, who hinted at a reunion with the Eagles, saying, “Philly… you are so amazing!! That love is so real.”
It’s worth noting that the Bills shared the same record as the Eagles at 8-4, but they had a slight edge in the waiver order.
