of buffalo bills versus kansas city chiefs The divisional round game of the 2024 NFL Playoffs featured two violent developments in the third quarter.
With Kansas City leading 27-24, the Bills attempted a fake punt play but failed miserably, giving the ball back to the Chiefs at the Buffalo 32-yard line. Kansas City quickly got his team on the 1-yard line with an explosive play from Isaiah Pacheco. That's when the madness started again. Patrick Mahomes found Mecole Hardman in the flat and fumbled the ball out of the end zone for a turnover and a touchback.
The referees initially called Hardman down, but Buffalo's challenge was successful and the play was overturned. Watch here:
That's very close. The umpires didn't seem to have enough evidence to overturn the on-field call, but they ultimately did it. This call gave new life to the Bills, who were rapidly losing momentum.
The fumble touchback rule is one of the biggest game-changers in the NFL. Not very popular.
The NFL, competition committees and owners plan to review fumble-through end zone safety rules this offseason. Although this rarely happens, some people find the penalties too harsh.

What a rule! The most ridiculous disciplinary rule in sports is touchbacks for fumbles in the end zone or out of bounds. The team in possession of the ball must regain possession at 8:00 p.m. Not other teams.

The fumble touchback rule is 100 times more interesting when it happens to you. I love this rule.never change
