Buffalo Bills’ Rookie Maxwell Hairston Faces Legal Challenge

Maxwell Hairston, a first-round pick for the Buffalo Bills, is currently under scrutiny due to past sexual assault allegations that surfaced during his training camp. The allegations date back to 2021 when a civil lawsuit was filed against him by a woman from the University of Kentucky.

Brandon Bean, the Bills’ general manager, expressed his frustration regarding the situation, describing it as “irritating.” Nevertheless, he acknowledged that it’s important not to dwell on it excessively. “In a legitimate world, you can’t sit there and say things back and forth because you have to let it go,” Bean remarked, adding that the incident occurred over four years ago.

He emphasized that Hairston has cooperated fully, having even volunteered for a polygraph test to clear his name. “This kid didn’t run away from anything; he answered it all,” Bean stated. He’s confident in Hairston’s character, noting that the scrutiny can be harsh and acknowledging that false accusations can easily shift public perception.

The woman who filed the lawsuit is named Rebecca Hendrix. She alleges that Hairston forcibly removed her clothing and assaulted her despite her expressing a lack of consent. In contrast, Hairston maintains that a thorough investigation by the University of Kentucky found him innocent of the allegations. “I have two sisters I really love and I have decided to respect all women and bring the truth out there,” he shared, stating that he’s been open about his innocence.

In the offseason, the Bills allocated their 30th overall pick to strengthen their secondary, selecting Hairston after he gained attention during the NFL Draft. He is anticipated to start alongside Christian Benford, though competition remains from experienced players like Dane Jackson and Tre’Davious White, who have returned to the team this season.
