Colt’s Gardner-Johnson Suspension Upheld

The NFL confirmed on Thursday that C.J. Gardner-Johnson, the safety for the Buffalo Bills, will serve a one-game suspension for spitting at an opposing player. Since the Bills have a bye in Week 7, Gardner-Johnson will miss the upcoming Week 8 game against the Baltimore Ravens. The appeal was reviewed by officer Jordy Nelson.

Head coach Joe Brady did not hold back, labeling Gardner-Johnson’s behavior as “inexcusable.” He emphasized the team’s need to maintain high standards, saying, “It’s hard enough to win enough in this league with 48 guys, much less 47.” He noted that actions like this can’t occur in football, stressing the importance of staying within the boundaries.

Brady reassured fans that Gardner-Johnson will be back in the starting lineup once he returns in Week 9. The incident took place during a game against the Las Vegas Raiders, when Gardner-Johnson was ejected for spitting towards center Tyler Linderbaum and tight end Brock Bowers just before halftime.

Gardner-Johnson acknowledged the mistake, expressing a need to improve his emotional control following the event.

In a separate incident, Bills safety Sam Franklin Jr. was also suspended for spitting at a player in a recent game, although he took to social media to deny those claims, asserting he would never intentionally spit on anyone.
