Bills urge shovelers to obey travel ban as snow pounds Buffalo

Forget about playing football in Buffalo on a Sunday afternoon.

The weather in Western New York was so bad that the Bills postponed shoveling snow at Highmark Stadium in preparation for Monday afternoon's wild-card playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“Due to weather updates and the travel ban currently in place, snow shovelers are being asked to comply with the travel ban and not report to work at Highmark Stadium until further notice once the ban is lifted.” Bill posted on Sunday With X account.

“Eventually, snow plow crews will be able to work multiple shifts and be part of the team that prepares the venue.”

The Bills were originally scheduled to host the Steelers on Sunday at 1 p.m., but Saturday's game was moved to Monday at 4:30 p.m.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul made an announcement The move was made as part of the state's travel ban to the area on Saturday after consultation with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, the emergency response team, Bills leadership and the NFL.

Due to the influence of the lake, snowfall and strong winds, The state continues to advise against travel. A blizzard is expected through Sunday “unless absolutely necessary.”

Buffalo and surrounding counties, including Orchard Park in Erie County, where the Bills' stadium is located, were under a winter storm warning until 7 a.m. Monday.

Up to 3 feet of snow is possible.

The Steelers were scheduled to hold a walkthrough in Pittsburgh at noon Sunday, then fly to Buffalo at 3 p.m.

If the Bills defeat the Steelers, Buffalo will host the Kansas City Chiefs in the regional round of the playoffs next week.

If Pittsburgh wins, the Steelers will travel to Baltimore to face the top-seeded Ravens.
