Billy Crudup Discusses Parenting and Past Relationships
Billy Crudup is sharing some thoughts on parenting.
The 57-year-old actor mentioned that, despite the ups and downs of his past relationship with Mary-Louise Parker, they still connect through their son, William, who is now 21.
In a recent interview, Crudup was asked about his current relationship with Parker, and if things had improved since their breakup in 2003.
“I won’t comment on our situation, but our love for our son is truly endless,” the “Morning Show” star said. He added, “The combination of us gave him some unique talents. He’s sort of a mischievous character. Both Mary-Louise and I are part of his artistic journey.”
Crudup and Parker began their relationship while working together on the Broadway show “Bus Stop” in 1996. Things shifted after seven years, especially when Parker was seven months along with their child, as Crudup left her for actress Claire Danes.
Crudup and Danes met on the set of the film “Stage Beauty.” Their relationship experienced its own challenges, culminating in their split in 2007.
Though Crudup has largely kept the details of his breakup private, he once reached out to a journalist in 2004, requesting respect for their personal lives amidst public scrutiny.
“I need to address the misconceptions regarding my life with Mary-Louise Parker. This is a personal matter; it shouldn’t be put out there just to satisfy public curiosity,” said Crudup, emphasizing that personal struggles shouldn’t become fodder for gossip.
In 2017, he admitted to the Times, “I have regrets about my past choices.” When asked why he avoided discussing his relationship with Parker publicly, he said, “There are other lives intertwined. Why draw more attention to it when it’s still being worked through?”
Parker hinted at her feelings in her memoir, mentioning the challenge of being pregnant and feeling alone, showing how deep the emotional impact ran.
Parker later adopted her daughter Ash from Ethiopia in 2007. Meanwhile, Danes spoke out in 2009 about her relationship with Crudup, acknowledging the harsh judgments they faced in the media but maintaining her integrity through it all.
Crudup eventually married Naomi Watts in 2023, after meeting on the set of “Gypsy” in 2017. Although he hasn’t lined up new projects, he expressed interest in collaborating with Watts again.
“Currently, there’s nothing on the agenda, but we chat about it frequently,” he mentioned. “She’s eager to dive back into theater.” The couple celebrated their marriage with a simple courthouse ceremony, followed by a more elaborate wedding in Mexico City.
William attended the latter event, alongside Watts’ children from her previous relationship.
Recently, Watts reflected on their early intimacy, sharing a humorous moment when Crudup reassured her about aging. His candidness left a lasting impression, with Watts describing those words as some of the most heartfelt she’d ever received.
