Cognizant Classic launched at PGA National on Thursday and officially launched the PGA Tour Florida Swing. I'm currently running off golf.
Now on the PGA Tour in Florida, golf fans can get a glimpse into a similar environment to the southeast. All humid temperatures are rage, and do you know what else is coming out? Gators!
Florida Gator himself, Billy Horschel, came across it midway through Thursday's round and took it to himself to chase it into the water. This actually happened! Brently Romeen from Golf Channel The incident was captured in the video:
“I'm not afraid of gators. Like I told most people, I said they're more afraid of you. Most of the time, they only come after you during mating season. If they're a bit aggressive and are around the nest when you have eggs,” explained Horchel.
“Most of the time, they're fine. I grew up grabbing my dad's tail when he was on the side of the bank and grabbing them by the tail. I've never touched the tail with my hands, but I've done it at the club. It's not that big of a thing.
Horseshell, who coincidentally really chose to win this week, fired a 5-under 66 on Thursday.
Even more hilarious is that Hoschel used the shortest club, a 60-degree wedge in his bag outside the putter.
“I wasn't thinking about that, but it's good to have grabbed 60 because there are two extras in the locker. So, if one of them is no longer available, there were two more in the locker,” Horschel said.
In the sports world, you need to keep your mind constantly moving, but even during your Florida swing, this is something you should be prepared for.
Praise to Billy for thinking with his feet.
