Billy Joel is auctioning off over 70 treasured motorcycles.

Billy Joel is set to auction off his impressive collection of motorcycles in New York City, raising excitement among fans and collectors alike. The auction, organized by Gooding Christie’s, will feature over 70 lots from his personal collection, all being sold without reserve during their inaugural event at Retromobile next month.

At 77, Joel is described as a true motorcycle enthusiast, with a varied selection that includes older models and a mix of styles. According to David Gooding, the founder of Gooding Christie’s, the collection is quite diverse.

Gooding highlights the unique aspect of the auction, noting that all motorcycles will go to the highest bidder, with no minimum price. Part of the proceeds will also support the Joel Foundation, which focuses on music education and women’s health initiatives.

The lineup features many of Joel’s prized bikes, including brands like Ducati, BMW, and Harley-Davidson. One standout piece is a 1978 Triumph T140 Bonneville, gifted to him by Madison Square Garden to celebrate 150 sold-out shows. It’s predicted to sell for $10,000 to $15,000.

This custom-painted motorcycle, adorned with a keyboard design, also comes with a matching helmet that lists all the shows he performed at Madison Square Garden. Another notable bike in the collection is a 1982 Ducati 900 Mike Hailwood Replica, expected to fetch between $15,000 and $25,000.

A fully restored 1975 Ducati 750 Sport is estimated to be valued between $25,000 and $35,000, which auctioneers call one of the most aesthetically pleasing motorcycles ever made. The auction is set for November 20-21 and will take place at the Javits Center, where the motorcycles will be on display.

Gooding believes this collection will attract both Joel’s fans and motorcycle aficionados, citing the dual appeal of the bikes and their connection to the iconic musician. Joel himself expressed his fondness for the art of motorcycle craftsmanship, stating he enjoyed curating his collection and is excited for others to experience their exhilarating ride.

Recently, Joel underwent brain surgery after being diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), a condition that affects balance, vision, and hearing. He shared that his extensive concert activities may have contributed to this health issue.
During a recent discussion on his SiriusXM show, he reflected on the impact of his rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle on his health.

NPH, which is often diagnosed in older adults, occurs when excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates, putting pressure on the brain. Treatment typically involves surgical intervention to allow drainage of fluid.
