Alexa Ray Joel, the daughter of music icon Billy Joel, has recently shared some encouraging news regarding her father’s health. The 40-year-old revealed that the legendary 76-year-old musician is doing well, especially after his diagnosis of normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), a rare brain condition that led him to cancel all concerts last May.
Before her performance at “The Music of Billy Joel” memorial event at Carnegie Hall, Alexa mentioned that her father is focusing on his recovery. “He has regular physical therapy and is doing very well. He’s on a diet and has lost weight,” she noted.
She expressed pride in her father’s resilience, calling him brave and dedicated to staying healthy. “He talks in the documentary about how life is like a battle,” she said. The memorial service at Carnegie Hall was an emotional reunion, especially for Alexa. Reflecting on her father’s first performance there in the ’70s, she remarked, “It’s a full-circle moment.”
Interestingly, she emphasized the importance of Billy attending the event, illustrating how he remains organized. “I said, ‘Dad, you should be there! This is Carnegie Hall. Everyone is honoring you.’ He was like, ‘Let me write that down.’”
A packed Carnegie Hall celebrated Billy’s music during the tribute concert, which raised over $225,000 for music education programs—the largest amount in the event’s history. Alexa shone on stage while her father, in a sleek black suit, also received applause and admiration.
Last year, Billy reassured fans about his health, explaining, “I know a lot of people are worried about me, but I’m fine.” He described his condition as concerning yet manageable, emphasizing his focus on recovery.
As he navigates through this health challenge, it’s clear that family support is crucial. Billy’s journey spans a rich family life, including his marriage to Christie Brinkley, with whom he had Alexa Ray, and later, his relationship with Alexis Roderick, with whom he shares two daughters, Della Rose and Remy Anne.
