The New York Jets’ separation from Aaron Rodgers officially took place in February, roughly two years after his highly publicized move to the team. Since then, reports indicate that teams like the Minnesota Vikings and the Pittsburgh Steelers have shown interest in him. Interestingly, the Vikings, in March, made it clear they were engaging in discussions with other free-agent quarterbacks.
Recently, Rodgers toured the Steelers’ facility, where he reportedly met with various coaches. However, he still hasn’t made up his mind about continuing his NFL career in 2025 or potentially stepping away from the game altogether.
It’s been said that Rodgers’ interest in the Steelers is, well, a bit complicated. Ian O’Connor, who has interviewed Rodgers and many others to create insightful profiles of quarterbacks, has shared some thoughts on where star players may eventually end up.
O’Connor noted on a podcast that it seems Rodgers has hinted—though not exactly guaranteed—that he intends to play for the Steelers. He expressed a desire to avoid missing key minicamps due to personal matters, which he hopes will be resolved by the end of May. With the Steelers’ necessary minicamp scheduled from June 10th to 12th, these timelines might overlap for Rodgers.
O’Connor suggests that the Steelers could be the ideal destination for Rodgers to conclude his illustrious career. He commented that the situation in New York must be “embarrassing” for Rodgers, as he is often viewed as a significant figure in that narrative. While he hopes for a successful outcome, he seems to temper expectations regarding the Steelers’ Super Bowl chances for the upcoming year.
