A bipartisan coalition of unlikely “allies” is emerging to oppose financial blacklisting by Big Tech and Wall Street giants.
Independent Journalist Lee Fang Written In a court filing last week, CFPB Director Chopra noted that entire political and religious groups have been “debanked” by major financial institutions and have lost banking services — a practice he and the CFPB want to rein in.
Fan gave the example of hundreds of Canadian truck drivers who support anti-vaccine mandates having access to their bank accounts stripped, including PayPal accounts, over “misinformation.”
Pro-life groups such as the Alakansa Family Council and the Luce Institute have also had their accounts suspended by JPMorgan Chase and Wells Fargo over allegations of inciting hatred.
Similarly, accounts of people protesting in support of the Palestinian cause in the US and UK have been blocked.
Fang said that unlikely “allies” — Christian conservatives, Republican lawmakers and populist Biden administration officials like Chopra — have formed a new coalition to defend free speech. They will have to overcome lobbyists for big tech companies and banks, senior DHS officials and left-wing nonprofits that “give companies unlimited right to remove users for allegations of misinformation or hate.”
Chopra argued that the explosion of financial technology platforms has led many companies to debank businesses and censor free speech while leaving ordinary Americans with little recourse.
