A new coalition has emerged from a bipartisan group concerned about President Trump’s economic agenda, aiming to shed light on the increasing costs faced by Americans since he took office just over 100 days ago.
Named the Cost Coalition, the group’s mission is to amplify the voices of everyday Americans who feel personally impacted by the president’s policies. They describe these individuals as “community leaders witnessing the economic harm and unfulfilled promises of Trump.”
“We advocate for sensible policies that resonate with the middle class and enable hardworking families to secure their futures,” the coalition stated in a press release.
They plan to emphasize “growing financial burdens,” which include higher prices for groceries, gas, home ownership, and both child and elder care. The coalition argues that this situation “makes American dreams unattainable for families across the nation.”
Critics have also pointed fingers at Trump regarding tax reforms. They note that his aggressive tariff strategies and the rollback of certain Biden era regulations—such as the Government Efficiency (DOGE), Chips & Science Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act—have negatively affected the workforce.
“The crisis of affordability worsens under a billionaire president who seems to prioritize his wealth over the very Americans he promised to assist. This stems from a Congress entangled in the complexities of Washington,” the release further explained.
The coalition plans to operate in Virginia, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania in 2025, with intentions to expand to additional areas in 2026. Their outreach strategy includes leveraging social media, press engagements, events, and paid ads.
They are also calling out supporters of policies that fuel price hikes, inflation, and government debt while stunting economic progress.
Members include a mix of political strategists and former aides from both parties, alongside outreach personnel from faith and military communities.
Key figures include Democrat Andrew Bates, previously Senior Vice President under former President Biden, and Republican Terry Holt, who served as a spokesperson for former President George W. Bush’s campaign and former House Speaker John Boehner.
“A hundred days later, Donald Trump has put what was once the world’s strongest economy on a troubling path toward recession. His tariffs, regarded as the largest middle-class tax in modern history, are driving up everyday costs and creating turmoil for businesses both large and small,” Bates and Holt stated in a joint message. “Next on the list is an inflation tax cut benefiting the wealthy, which burdens future generations with immense debt.”
“Whether you lean Republican, Democratic, or anything in between, it’s clear that Donald Trump’s agenda is leading to an economic crisis that jeopardizes your livelihood and standard of living,” they concluded.
The coalition has reached out to the White House for their input on the matter.
