Bissell recalls more than 150,000 vacuum cleaners across US, Canada

The CSPC also said Bissell had received “17 reports of recalled vacuum cleaners emitting smoke and a burning odor.”

“Six of the reports involved battery packs catching fire, three of which resulted in minor property damage and two of which resulted in minor burns,” CSPC said.

Bissell said on its webpage about the recall that it would provide free replacement vacuums to anyone who owns an affected vacuum. You can request a replacement vacuum cleaner by filling out a form on the web page.

“Do not throw this recalled battery in the trash. Do not deposit this recalled battery in used battery recycling bins located at various retail stores and hardware stores,” CSPC said in a release.

The notification comes nearly a year after the company recalled another vacuum model due to similar concerns about battery packs overheating and catching fire.
