Black Democrats express concerns about Pritzker following Stratton's Illinois Senate victory with 2028 approaching.

In the recent Illinois primary, Governor J.B. Pritzker stepped into the spotlight as a crucial player. His push to support Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton raised eyebrows, especially given its potential implications for future presidential ambitions.

The Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) has criticized Pritzker for dedicating millions of his personal wealth to bolster Stratton’s Senate run. Stratton managed to secure a place in the general election, overcoming significant financial backing from prominent CBC figures like Rep. Robin Kelly and Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi.

U.S. Rep. Gregory Meeks took a hard stance, suggesting that Pritzker should reach out to them instead. His comment signifies a rift; Meeks is leading the CBC PAC that supported Kelley, who ultimately lost the primary.

Stratton’s decisive win could have immediate repercussions for Pritzker as he seeks a third term as governor while also contemplating a 2028 presidential run. The CBC, influential in the Democratic Party after working closely with former President Biden and Vice President Harris, appears to be keeping Pritzker at arm’s length for the moment.

Rep. Joyce Beatty noted the strategic nature of the CBC, emphasizing the necessity for a Democratic presidential nominee to engage with them meaningfully. Meanwhile, long-time CBC member Rep. Bennie Thompson expressed his dissatisfaction, highlighting that Pritzker needs to justify his support of Stratton.

Pritzker, a billionaire, contributed at least $5 million to a super PAC backing Stratton, a move that helped her navigate negative ads attacking her candidacy. Some CBC members have voiced concerns that the competitive nature of Stratton’s and Kelly’s campaigns might be dividing the Black vote.

CBC Chairwoman Rep. Yvette Clark described Pritzker’s influence in the Senate race as frustrating and suggested it’s something the caucus will remember. On the campaign trail, Stratton has established herself as a fervent opponent of Trump, even using a controversial ad that included strong language against him and featured Pritzker.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Pritzker for his thoughts on these recent developments.
