Blackburn unveils 'DOGE Acts' to cut spending, freeze federal hiring and salaries

Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) announced the DOGE Act to cut spending and freeze federal jobs and salaries.

“Senator Blackburn will introduce a series of bills next week, known as the DOGE Act, designed to hold the federal government more accountable for managing taxpayer funds,” a spokesperson for Sen. Blackburn said in a statement. We plan to submit it.” “The DOGE Act is consistent with Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy's plan to make the federal government more efficient.”

The bill would “cut discretionary spending, move federal agencies out of the swamp, freeze federal hiring and pay for one year, begin the process of merit-based compensation for federal employees, and require agencies to ,” the statement said.

A bill in the package would create a commission focused on relocating some federal agencies out of D.C. Suspend federal employment and pay for one year and force the federal government to implement a pilot program to reward civilian employees based on merit.

Last month, President-elect Trump announced a plan by tech billionaire Elon Musk and former Republican presidential primary candidate Vivek Ramaswamy to “reduce excessive regulation and reduce wasteful spending.” He announced that he will become the Secretary of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Reorganize federal agencies.

DOGE will “provide advice and guidance from outside the government” and work with the White House Office of Management and Budget, the president-elect said.

“This could potentially become a modern-day 'Manhattan Project,'” Trump added. “Republican politicians have long dreamed of DOGE goals.”

Musk and Ramaswamy were meeting at the Capitol on Thursday with Republican leaders including incoming Senate Majority Leader John Thune and House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana).

“I think we should spend the people's money wisely,” Musk told reporters Thursday at the Capitol.
