The 2024 MLB season doesn’t appear to be going as planned for Blake Snell.
The Giants starting pitcher left the game after 4 2/3 innings against the Yankees on Sunday and was suffering from left groin tightness and may return to the disabled list, according to the Mercury News.
It was Snell’s third start since returning from the disabled list after missing 25 games with a left adductor injury.
“We’ll look at the MRI results and go from there.” Snell told reporters: After the match.
Snell is scheduled to undergo further imaging on Thursday, but said the injury feels “similar” to the groin injury he suffered earlier this season.
“It’s a real shame,” Snell said. According to the Mercury News“It’s frustrating, but you just have to look at the next thing, work on it and get back on the field.”
Snell gave up five hits and three runs while striking out seven as the Yankees won, 7-5.
Snell was plagued by injuries all season and had to wait until the team’s fourth series of the year to make his Giants debut.
He started just three games before his first injury kept him off the mound for a month.
The Giants signed the left-hander to a two-year, $62 million contract in March.
His ERA this season is 9.51 after Sunday’s game.
He has yet to record a win this season and has never pitched more than five innings since arriving in San Francisco.
“I don’t think he’s moving any worse than he did last time,” Giants manager Bob Melvin said. According to ESPN. “But I don’t understand why it’s not IL. [situation]. “
The Giants travel to Arizona on Monday for a three-game series against the Diamondbacks.
