A tragic explosion at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s training facility resulted in multiple fatalities.
This incident occurred at the Viscale Center Academy Training Facility in East Los Angeles around 7:30 a.m., according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Initial reports suggest that at least three deputies have died as a result of the explosion.
Authorities are treating the incident as a potential training accident, but specific details regarding the cause remain unclear.
As of now, it’s uncertain how many others might have been injured or if there are more casualties.
Law enforcement stated that the bomb squad was conducting exercises during that timeframe, adding some confusion about what exactly triggered the explosion.
Aerial footage showed a sheriff’s vehicle within the complex, notably with its back windshield shattered, along with evidence of explosives and related equipment in the vicinity.
Attorney General Pam Bondy communicated with LA County Sheriff Robert Luna and U.S. Attorney Bill Essay to discuss federal assistance.
In a statement, Bondy mentioned the involvement of the FBI and urged the community to keep the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office in their thoughts.
California Governor Gavin Newsom has been briefed on the situation, but his office has not confirmed any specifics about injuries or fatalities, citing the ongoing investigation.
