Police have confirmed that blood discovered on the front steps of Savannah Guthrie’s mother’s house belongs to her missing 84-year-old grandmother. This startling news came in an update from the authorities.
DNA from the blood was gathered as part of an investigation, which included disturbing footage captured outside Nancy Guthrie’s upscale home in Tucson.
A preliminary analysis revealed that the blood matched Nancy, as stated by Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos during a press conference.
“We rushed through what we thought was the best target for DNA and got some of it back,” Nanos explained. “The blood on the porch, that’s what we did and it came back to Nancy. That’s what we know.”
This DNA evidence is just one of several forensic samples collected by police from her home and sent to the FBI for swift analysis; however, the analysis of the porch blood is the only one completed so far, according to law enforcement.
“We still have items that have been submitted; they just haven’t been returned yet,” Nanos added.
Nancy Guthrie hasn’t been seen since Saturday night when her son-in-law dropped her off after a family dinner. The missing person report was filed on Sunday, and by Monday, the investigation escalated into a criminal inquiry.
As of now, there are no suspects identified in the case.
The FBI is dedicating significant resources to expedite the investigation, focusing on everything from DNA analysis to digital forensics and searches nationwide.
“The FBI is committing many men and women to assist us,” Nanos said. “We’re collaborating on all information and data to resolve this situation.”
“At this point, we believe Nancy is still out there. We want her home,” he continued. “We just want to find a way to bring her back and understand what has happened.”
