Blue Jays announcer calls out Michael Kay following Yankees' sweep

Jamie Campbell Takes a Shot at Michael Kay After Blue Jays Sweep

SportsNet host Jamie Campbell didn’t pass on an opportunity to jab at Michael Kay following the Blue Jays’ four-game sweep of the Yankees. During the post-game show, instead of directly using Kay’s name, Campbell referred to him as a “specific Yankee broadcaster,” likely in response to previous remarks where Kay suggested Toronto doesn’t represent the top team.

“I can think of a particular Yankee broadcaster,” Campbell remarked. “In fact, he has to go to his show tomorrow. How about admitting that the Blue Jays are the number one team? The rankings prove it.” At this point, he held a broom, emphasizing the sweep.

Earlier in the season, the Yankees were leading in the AL East standings, but that quickly unravelled, impacting the series significantly.

Kay had previously pointed to statistical differentials during his radio segment, arguing that the Blue Jays shouldn’t be at the top of the division despite their recent hot streak of 21-10 following a rough 28-28 start.

“The Blue Jays are not the number one team. I’m sorry,” Kay stated, backing his position with data. “The Yankees have a run differential of +105. The Blue Jays, after a recent win, were at +4.”

Kay also mentioned that the Yankees weren’t playing great baseball, despite their differential advantage, noting their struggles during the weekend series against the Mets.

Adding to their woes, the Yankees faced another setback as pitcher Clark Schmidt was placed on the injured list following forearm tension after his start on Thursday.
