Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer became furious with home plate umpire Manny Gonzalez after being ejected in the bottom of the seventh inning against the Los Angeles Angels.
Springer faced Angels pitcher Kenny Rosenberg in the top of the seventh inning. With the count at 1-2, Rosenberg’s pitch was called a ball low and inside. Springer began walking to first base as if the ball had hit him in the leg.

The Blue Jays challenged the call using replay review, which suggested Springer was hit on his right leg, but the umpires ruled he was not.
Springer started to complain and was ejected, but that was just the beginning of the fireworks: Toronto manager John Schneider also came out to protest the call.
Springer needed Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and first-base coach Mark Budzinski to keep him in check.

“I know the rules. He knows the rules. I was kind of shocked by the call,” Springer said after the 6-1 win. “When you challenge a call in that situation, it’s an automatic ejection. I understand that.”

Springer said Gonzalez initially told him he didn’t get a clear view of the play because of the angle at which Angels catcher Logan O’Hoppe blocked the ball as it hit the ground. MLB told The Associated Press that replay official Adrian Johnson couldn’t clearly determine whether Springer’s leg was hit.
Springer said he was angry because he had expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome and was ejected.
“I have to try harder. There are kids in the stands and I don’t want my sons to see me so upset,” he said, adding that he knew the ball had hit his foot.
