Blue Jays manager criticizes Mariners fans for booing injured George Springer

Criticism Aimed at Mariners Fans After Springer Injury

Toronto Blue Jays Manager John Schneider expressed his disapproval following the loud boos from Seattle Mariners fans when George Springer, a four-time All-Star, was taken out of the game in the seventh inning. This happened after he was hit in the knee by a pitch.

After the Mariners secured a 3-1 lead in the American League Championship Series, Schneider commented on what he perceived as unsportsmanlike behavior from the Seattle crowd. He remarked, “I know this is a great atmosphere to play in. It’s really cool to be here. But the fans who booed him should take a moment to think about the kind of player he is.”

He added, “I’m going to stop there because, honestly, it’s just not right when a player gets hurt and is in evident pain while thousands cheer against him.”

The incident occurred late in the game while the Blue Jays were ahead 2-1. Springer’s kneecap was struck by a pitch from Brian Wu, causing him to collapse on the field in pain. He was later helped off the field, visibly limping.

Blue Jays third baseman Ernie Clement expressed confusion over the fans’ reactions, saying, “I just don’t understand how you can boo someone who’s clearly hurt. I have respect for the Mariners fans I’ve met, but that was a tough moment, a bit undignified.”

Despite the rough moment, Springer has been instrumental for the Blue Jays throughout the postseason, hitting a crucial double in the fifth inning—marking his sixth consecutive extra-base hit. Currently, he holds a .256 batting average, with three home runs and five doubles in this postseason run.
