The Toronto Blue Jays are Still in the Running
The Toronto Blue Jays are still in the playoff hunt.
In Game 6 of the American League Championship Series against the Seattle Mariners, the Blue Jays took a commanding 4-0 lead early and went on to win the game 6-2.
One more game awaits to determine which team will head to the World Series to face the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Blue Jays outfielder Addison Berger sparked the offense in the second inning with a single that brought Dalton Varsho home. Isaiah Kinner-Falefa later scored Ernie Clement with an infield hit, setting a positive tone for Toronto. Then, in the third inning, Berger hit a two-run homer that really energized the crowd at Rogers Center.
The excitement was palpable.
Toronto added to their score in the fifth inning when Vladimir Guerrero Jr. belted a solo home run. Guerrero, attempting to steal third, managed to score following a throwing error from the Mariners’ catcher.
Guerrero finished the day with two hits and two RBIs, marking his sixth home run of the postseason. Berger ended up 2-for-3 with three RBIs, securing his second postseason home run.
The Mariners weren’t out of it either. Josh Naylor hit a solo home run, and Eugenio Suarez brought in Randy Arozarena. Still, they couldn’t capitalize on two opportunities to load the bases, with key double plays halting their momentum.
Yesavage pitched well, striking out seven in just over five innings. Conversely, Lowry had a tough game, striking out three times and finishing 0-for-4 at the plate. Other Mariners players, like Jesus Rodriguez and Jorge Polanco, also struggled offensively.
All eyes are on Game 7, scheduled for Monday night in Toronto at 8:08 PM ET.
The Blue Jays haven’t made it to the World Series since 1993, while the Mariners have yet to ever reach it.
