Blueshirts favorite in Round 1

The Rangers are heavy favorites against the Capitals in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, with the series opening Sunday at Madison Square Garden.

The top-seeded Rangers beat the eighth-seeded Capitals at -410, with the Capitals at +315 to pull off the upset at FanDuel Sportsbook.

The Blueshirts were the biggest favorites in the first eight games of the NHL playoffs, defeating the Hurricanes, who beat the Islanders -350.

Oddsmakers are also predicting a relatively short series.

The Rangers are +490 to overwhelm the Capitals with five games left and +280 to win outright.

The pair will be split into four contests during the regular season, each competing in December and January.

The Rangers are viewed as one of the favorites to win the Stanley Cup, aiming for their first title since 1994.

They are currently tied with the Dallas Stars for the third-best odds to win the Stanley Cup (+800, FanDuel), behind the Carolina Hurricanes (+650) and Florida Panthers (+700).

The Rangers also have the third-best odds to win the Eastern Conference (+340), again behind the Hurricanes (+300) and Panthers (+330).

This season’s Stanley Cup race is shaping up to be one of the widest in NHL history.

This is the first time since at least 1985 that no team had title odds higher than 6/1 going into the first round.
