Authorities report that a BMW driver fatally hit a man crossing a Bronx street and then fled the scene on foot, leaving the passenger behind.
At about 12:15 a.m. on Saturday, Shariq Bryant, 27, was crossing East 222nd Block when a 2025 BMW M8 lost control and crashed at the intersection with Boston Road in Williamsbridge, amid a series of gunshots.
Police stated that Bryant, who lived nearby, suffered grave injuries and was transported to Jacobi Medical Center, where he later passed away.
On a GoFundMe page set up for Bryant, his family described him as “a truly one-of-a-kind person” with a warm and caring nature that could light up any room.
His loved ones shared, “He made people feel seen, valued, and supported. Whether sharing a laugh or just being his uplifting self, Shariq touched countless lives. His kindness was effortless, and his compassion boundless.”
As for the driver, authorities said he continued down the street and crashed into a utility pole shortly after the incident.
The driver abandoned the vehicle, leaving a 28-year-old male passenger with minor injuries; fortunately, the passenger did not require hospitalization.
Meanwhile, investigators continued their search for the driver on Monday.
This tragic hit-and-run occurred just hours after a 68-year-old grandfather was killed by a moped driver going the wrong way in Queens.
Victim Trevor Lloyd Samuels, a former corrections officer from Jamaica, was struck while crossing at the intersection of 93rd Street and 168th Street around 6:30 p.m. Friday. Police informed that the moped driver, 26-year-old Yunio Brehe Rodriguez, also suffered minor injuries and was subsequently arrested for aggravated driving without a license.
