Bo Bichette can contribute even more to the Mets after extending his multi-hit streak

CINCINNATI — Bo Bichette’s Strong Performance

Bo Bichette started his day with a single in the first inning on Wednesday, marking the beginning of a solid game.

In line with recent trends, Bichette’s success tended to rally the offense, as he ended the day with three hits in four at-bats, including a walk, contributing to the Mets’ 9-1 victory over the Reds.

This performance marked Bichette’s sixth consecutive game with multiple hits, and he seems to be in great form.

“I’m just competing and the ball is finding the grass,” Bichette commented, highlighting his impressive 1.039 OPS as of June.

Bichette’s recent streak of multi-hit games is noteworthy, standing as the third-longest in franchise history. Steve Henderson once had eight straight such games in 1979, while David Wright had seven in 2011.

Nevertheless, Bichette noted that he doesn’t feel like he’s in a state where a hit is guaranteed every time he approaches the plate.

“I think I’ll have better at-bats now that I have more experience,” he said. “It’s not perfect. I think I’m making good adjustments from at-bat to at-bat, but there’s still room for improvement.” He added, “But I’m not complaining too much.”

Following Bichette’s lead, Juan Soto also delivered three hits, showcasing an effective one-two punch for the Mets.

Bichette reflected, “That’s what I envisioned. He’s a great hitter. I see myself as a great hitter too, so that’s exciting. It’s fun to score.”

His return has been a boost for the lineup, especially as they await Francisco Lindor’s comeback from a calf strain.

“Bichette’s a top player; it was only a matter of time until we saw this level of performance consistently,” said manager Carlos Mendoza.

In a notable defensive moment during the third inning, Nolan McLean managed to limit the damage, giving up just one earned run thanks to AJ Ewing’s diving catch with the bases loaded.

“I think that play helped us avoid more runs and built some momentum as we moved into the second half of the game,” McLean remarked.

Additionally, according to Mendoza, Ronnie Mauricio is set to start his minor league rehab assignment this weekend. He has been out since May 3 due to a fractured left thumb.

Interestingly, the Mets have consistently scored at least five runs in their last ten victories leading up to May 29 against Miami.
