Islanders Update: Horvat Set to Return, Pulock’s Status Uncertain
The Islanders are anticipating Bo Horvat’s return for the game against Buffalo on Saturday. However, Ryan Pulock’s absence during Friday’s practice has brought up some concerns regarding his injury status.
Reports indicate Pulock is dealing with upper body injuries, which are reportedly affecting his ability to engage in everyday activities.
The team hasn’t officially ruled him out for Saturday’s game, but being absent from practice doesn’t bode well.
There weren’t any movements made on Friday to bring in an additional defenseman.
To make room on the roster, the Islanders may need to either waive defenseman Cole McWard or place Pulock on injured reserve, which would mean he’d miss at least a week.
Isaiah George seems like a likely candidate for a potential call-up.
As for Horvat, his return is a significant boost for the Islanders, who managed a 5-3-1 record without him.
Initially, Horvat was set to join the team for a seven-game road trip but ended up staying behind on Long Island, practicing solo.
“It was really good to be back with the players and get back to normal practice,” Horvat shared with reporters after training alongside Jonathan Drouin and Emil Heineman. “They were on a long road trip, and it felt lonely skating by myself.”
Coach Patrick Roy mentioned he wasn’t entirely certain about Horvat’s condition until after Saturday’s warmups, but it seems likely he’ll be ready to play against Buffalo.
“Oh my god, I’m glad he’s back,” Roy expressed. “The guys have done an amazing job while he was out. He’s our leading scorer, involved in power plays and crucial faceoffs. We’re thrilled to have him back.”
During his recovery, Horvat noted that Islanders GM Mathieu Darche communicated with Team Canada GM Doug Armstrong regarding his chance to compete in the Olympics.
As the Islanders’ sole representative for Team Canada, Horvat has eight games left before heading to Italy, ensuring he has enough time to regain his fitness.
“I think I knew it wasn’t too serious. I felt confident I’d be OK and back for the Olympics,” Horvat commented. “I’m really excited to be back now. It’s important not only for the team but also to prepare for Milan.”
