Bodies Of 28 Dead Israeli Hostages, Soldiers Remain In Gaza

The Israeli military said Sunday that another soldier was killed in the Oct. 7 Hamas attack and that his body was in custody in the Gaza Strip.

“Sergeant Shay Levinson, 19, died on October 7th. His body fell into the hands of Hamas,” the Israeli military said in a statement.

His death brings the number of dead hostages whose bodies remain in Palestinian territory to 28, according to an AFP tally based on Israeli data.

The Israeli military said Mr. Levinson lived in the northern village of Givat Avni and served in a combat unit.

Israel has vowed to counter Hamas' unprecedented October 7 attack and destroy it, resulting in the deaths of about 1,140 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally based on official Israeli statistics. He is said to have died.

Operatives captured about 250 hostages during the attack. Israel says about 132 people remain in Gaza, according to an AFP tally based on Israeli figures.

Relentless Israeli shelling and ground attacks since then have killed at least 25,105 people in the Gaza Strip, the majority of them women, children and adolescents, according to the Hamas-run Gaza Strip health ministry.
