A body was discovered on Tuesday evening in Bexar County, Texas, as authorities investigate a recent string of disappearances involving teenage girls in the area, all of whom went missing within a week.
The discovery was made during a search for 19-year-old Camila Olmos. However, officials cautioned that it’s too soon to confirm whether the body is hers. Sheriff Javier Salazar stated that the body was located in a field around 4:40 to 4:45 p.m. He mentioned that the medical examiner would determine the identity, cause, and manner of death.
According to Salazar, the joint search team, which included sheriff’s deputies and FBI agents, found the body in tall grass near a landscaping business not far from Olmos’ residence.
A firearm was also recovered nearby, described as an item of interest. Although authorities noted that they don’t currently suspect foul play, they indicated that the findings could suggest a self-inflicted incident. Salazar emphasized that they are still processing the scene, making it premature to come to conclusions.
Olmos was last seen leaving her home around 7 a.m. on December 24, coinciding with the disappearances of two other girls in the region. While 14-year-old Sofia Gabriela Peters Cobos was found safe, 17-year-old Angelique Johnson is still unaccounted for. Law enforcement has stated that they have not confirmed any connections between these cases.
The Texas Department of Public Safety had called off the clear Olmos alert, but authorities continue to encourage anyone with information regarding this case or Angelique Johnson’s whereabouts to reach out to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.
The authorities have yet to respond to inquiries made by various media outlets for further comments on the ongoing investigation.
