Body Found at Los Angeles Homeless Camp

A shocking discovery was made Thursday morning when a body was found at a well-known homeless encampment near the Los Angeles River. The grim finding occurred around 7:30 AM inside a tent on a dilapidated property close to Griffith Park, a popular local destination.

Authorities, including police and firefighters, responded to the scene shortly after the discovery. This took place just days after a report highlighted the dire conditions at the camp.

Residents of the encampment revealed that the deceased had only been living there for a brief period—around two weeks—and mentioned he was allegedly evading law enforcement.

Visuals from the scene showed the body being placed into a bag and transported to an ambulance for further investigation.

This distressing event follows a recent report that detailed the struggles of more than 20 individuals residing along a polluted riverbed, forced to seek shelter in stormwater ditches while scavenging for food and washing their clothes in contaminated water from one of the city’s iconic parks.

Despite spending approximately $1 billion annually on initiatives aimed at addressing homelessness, the situation seems to only deteriorate, spilling over into increasingly hazardous regions, including city sewers.

Some residents have lived along the riverbank for decades, experiencing cycles of shelters and treatment programs, but ultimately returning to the same bleak environment.

One woman, Iseth, who hails from Alaska, shared her story of living along the river for 20 years. She discussed her battles with mental health issues and addiction but indicated that she prefers this lifestyle for the freedom it brings, as well as her desire to care for animals near the shore.

A community activist, Cameron Flanagan, emphasized the alarming trend, accusing local leaders of ignoring the worsening conditions. She lamented, “So much money is just being squandered. The way we are handling this crisis, it feels like we’ll never find a solution. The city isn’t spending funds wisely.”

The camp falls within a district represented by a mayoral candidate, prompting the media to seek her perspective on the encampment and the recent death.

So far, officials have not disclosed the identity of the deceased or the circumstances surrounding their death, only stating that the case is being treated as “suspicious.”
