Search for Missing University of Alabama Student

Update: Catalan police discovered a body on Thursday while searching for missing University of Alabama student James “Jimmy” Gracie.

The body was located in a body of water near the Shoko nightclub in Port Olympic. While Spanish media outlets reported that authorities don’t suspect foul play right now, some other sources seem to contradict that. It’s all a bit confusing, honestly.

Reports suggest that he might have fallen into the sea after enjoying some drinks at the club. A passerby reportedly saw him heading towards a rocky area on the beach. Additionally, security footage showed Gracie leaving the club with someone, who hasn’t been identified yet. So, it’s hard to say if anything suspicious happened.

Earlier, Gracie’s wallet was found in the water on Wednesday. Police also seized a cellphone belonging to him from someone who found it on the beach.

Missing Persons Report

A 20-year-old student was reported missing while on spring break in Barcelona. James “Jimmy” Gracie was reportedly last seen around 3 a.m. local time on Tuesday at the Shoko restaurant and nightclub. His family mentioned that he was wearing a white shirt, black pants, and a gold chain adorned with a rhinestone cross. He’s about 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighs approximately 175 pounds.

He had been out with a friend who studies abroad, but that friend left early. A family statement described Jimmy as a kind and responsible young man, emphasizing that it’s unusual for him not to stay in touch with family and friends. They are grateful for the cooperation from local authorities and are asking for continued support as they hope to bring him home safely.

There’s also mention of a brunette American woman who was the last person to see Gracie. Investigators are working to locate her.

Gracie, originally from Illinois, was visiting friends during spring break. His uncle, who works as a senior producer, highlighted that Jimmy is a committed hockey player and responsible brother. He had plans to fly back to the U.S. on Saturday.

As of now, this is breaking news, and updates are expected.
