Body of third Baltimore bridge collapse victim recovered, 3 still missing

The body of the third construction worker killed last week when Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed after colliding with a cargo ship was recovered Friday, authorities said.

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott announced Friday night that Mayor Yasir Suazo-Sandoval, 38, was rescued from the Patapsco River.

“Tonight, joint forces announced that divers were able to bring one of the missing workers, Mayor Yasir Suazo-Sandoval, home to his family,” Scott said in a statement. “It is comforting to know that we are one step closer to the end of this, but my heart is with all the families who are still anxiously waiting for their loved ones.”

“We are grateful to the first responders who remained focused on rescuing the remaining victims and continued to work meticulously to clear the waterway,” he added. “We remain committed to supporting these families and providing them with what they need to overcome this unthinkable tragedy.”

A salvage dive team located a person believed to be one of the six missing construction workers and notified the Maryland State Police. Officials said Suazo-Sandoval’s body was discovered around 10:30 a.m. and her family was notified of the discovery.

Suazo-Sandoval was one of six people killed in the March 26 collapse. The other two recovered construction workers were identified as 35-year-old Alejandro Hernández Fuentes and 26-year-old Dorrian Lonial Castillo Cabrera.

Their bodies were found in a submerged red pickup truck about 8 meters deep in the middle of the Patapsco River. fox dc report.

A cargo ship in Dali crashed into a bridge early in the morning as construction workers were working to fill holes in the structure.

The ship lost power before the collision and a mayday warning was issued, giving police enough time to stop traffic. Eight construction workers were on a break when the bridge collapsed. Two people were rescued and the remaining six were presumed dead the next day.

“There are families who are still waiting to hear if their loved ones have been found. I can promise you, we will do everything in our power to find closure for each of these families,” said Col. Roland Butler Jr., Maryland’s Secretary of State. I will do my best.” Police said in a statement:
