Bodycam footage of Tyreek Hill’s detention released: ‘Take me to jail’

The Miami-Dade Police Department on Monday released officer body camera footage of an incident involving Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill.

Miami-Dade County Police Chief Stephen V. Daniels said the department plans to release more than an hour of footage as part of its efforts to promote transparency. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing, and the officers involved have been placed on “administrative assignment.”

The video begins with a police officer pulling up next to Hill's car and telling him he's speeding. Hill asks how fast he's been going, but is told to pull over.

When the officer knocked on his window, Hill handed over his driver's license and told the officer not to knock on his window like that. Hill then told the officer to give him the ticket and closed the window again. The officer then asked Hill to leave the window open.

“Keep your window up or we're going to take you out of your car. In fact, get out of your car,” the officer says.

The second officer threatened to break the window.

“We're not playing this game,” another officer said, and the body camera showed one officer opening the door, reaching into Hill's car and dragging him out with the help of a third officer.

“Hey, Drew, you're under arrest, Drew,” Hill can be heard saying, apparently speaking to deputy Drew Rosenhaus.

“When we tell you to do something, you do it. You just do what we tell you, not what you want to do. You're a little confused,” one officer said.

“Take me to jail. Do what you have to do,” Hill responded as he lay on the ground.

A passerby in another car near the scene of the incident can be seen asking Hill what was going on, to which the wide receiver responded, “I didn't do anything.”

The officers then appear to force Hill to sit on the curb next to his car, after which Hill tells the officers he had knee surgery, and one officer asks if he had ear surgery.

Another officer on the scene asked the officer shown on body camera footage if he recognized the man on the ground. The officer seen on the body camera responded that he did not know who the man was, to which the other officer replied, “That's one of the Dolphins' star players.”

An officer wearing a body camera can be heard explaining to his superiors what happened, while in the background Hill can be heard yelling, “I'm just acting like a black man.”

Hill was issued a traffic ticket and was left in the passenger seat of the car with Rosenhaus.

About four minutes into the video, Dolphins defensive lineman Calais Campbell walks toward the scene with his hands up. He is ordered to leave the scene or he will be handcuffed. Campbell says he wants to know what happened.

Campbell was then handcuffed.

The officer who spoke to Campbell also spoke to Jonnu Smith, who had pulled over to make sure everything was OK. The officer asked for Smith's license.

An attorney for the officer, who was placed on administrative duties after the incident, released a statement to Fox News Digital late Monday.

“While we believe the decision to place our client on administrative leave was premature, we respect Director Daniels' request for a thorough investigation of the incident involving Tyreek Hill and we fully support that position,” attorney Ignacio Alvarez of the ALGO Law Firm and attorney Israel Reyes of the Reyes Law Firm said in a statement. “We urge all parties involved to refrain from making public statements that misrepresent our client's actions and mislead the public about Hill's detention.”

“We seek, as Chief Daniels has argued, the immediate reinstatement of our client and a full, thorough and objective investigation. Our client will not comment until this investigation is concluded and the facts are fully known.”
